Middletown, CT - The Tide faced a challenging away match against Sporting CT at Xavier High School falling short 3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The match began with Sporting CT pressing high and creating early opportunities. An offside call against Sporting at the first minute marked their aggressive intent. The Tide’s defense, led by Sally Rainey, withstood the early pressure. Rainey made a great save in the 15th minute, tipping a shot aimed for the crossbar over the net. Audrey Fletcher and Megan Scholten were active for The Tide, with Fletcher coming close in the 8th minute, but the Sporting goalkeeper managed to keep the game scoreless. As the half progressed, The Tide’s defense held firm, highlighted by Logan Nicholson’s critical block in the 15th minute.
The breakthrough for Sporting CT came in the 39th minute when a direct free kick lead to a misjudged clearance by the tide, resulting in an own goal that put Sporting CT ahead just before the half.
The second half started with Sporting CT attempting to maintain pressure. They extended their lead to 2-0 in the 51st minute following a corner kick. Sporting CT’s third goal came in the 60th minute, a well-executed fast break that ended in a cross just out of Sally Rainey's reach. The Tide continued to fight back. Their efforts paid off in the 72nd minute when Madison Michaud scored a well-deserved goal, assisted by Emily Supple on a great transition play, bringing the score to 3-1.
The Tide pushed hard in the final minutes, with Michaud coming close again in the 88th minute.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Noor Noujaim was voted player of the match by fans. Noor showcased great defense throughout the entirety of the game, disrupting the Sporting offense and winning 50s.
